Ann-Kathrin Sowa is studying medicine at the University of Lübeck since 2004. After a short lab work experience in the laboratory for molecular genetics she started with her doctoral thesis in the group of Prof. Dr. Erdmann.

She is working with the gene Abcc6 which encodes for a transmembranous transporter in the cell. The gene is responsible for DCC (Dystrophic Cardiac Calcification) in mice and PXE (Pseudoxanthoma elasticum) in men. During her doctoral thesis she was abled to establish a cellculturemodel for calcification processes. Afterwards the cells on this model were transfected with the gene Abcc6 in oder to overexpress the gene of interest and examine its influence on calcification processes.
